The man bent over his guitar

A shearsman of sorts. The day was green.

They said:  “You have a blue guitar,

You do not play things as they are.”

The man replied, “Things are as they are

Are changed upon the blue guitar.”

And they said to him, “But play, you must,

A tune beyond us, yet ourselves,

A tune upon the blue guitar,

Of things exactly as they are.”

I.

O homem dobrou-se sobre a sua guitarra,

Um podador de acasos. O dia era verde.

Eles disseram, “Tu tens uma guitarra azul,

Tu não tocas as coisas como elas são.”

O homem respondeu, “As coisas como elas são

São mudadas na guitarra azul.”

E eles disseram então, “Mas toca, tu deves,

Uma melodia para lá de nós, nós mesmos porém,

Uma melodia na guitarra azul

Das coisas como elas exactamente são.”
